How to play
Mine Purge
Controls
| Mouse | Left click opens a cell · right click places or removes a flag · click a number that has all its flags placed to open everything else around it at once (middle click works too) |
|---|---|
| Keyboard | Arrow keys move along the cells · Enter or Space opens (on a number: opens around it) · F flags · Enter on the menu / result card starts a game |
| Touch | Tap to open · touch and hold about half a second to flag · or switch to the "Flag" tool under the grid and tap to flag · the large grid scrolls sideways |
Rules
- The first cell you open is always safe, and so are the 8 cells around it (on a grid too small for that, at least the first cell). The mines are laid after the first click, and the clock starts then
- A number counts the mines in the 8 cells around it; an empty cell (0) opens its surroundings by itself
- Flag the cells you believe hold mines: a flag keeps a cell from being opened by mistake. "Left" = mines minus flags
- Opening every cell without a mine wins (you need not flag them all) · opening a mine ends the game and the whole grid is revealed
- A game lasts at most 60 minutes, then ends and does not count
Sizes
| Small | 9 × 9 cells, 10 mines |
|---|---|
| Medium | 16 × 16 cells, 40 mines |
| Large | 30 × 16 cells, 99 mines |
The time table
Only cleared grids go on the table, ranked by the time from the first click to the last cell, fastest first; on a tie the earlier game comes first. Enter a name (2-20 characters) and a country: the time joins the world table and your country's table, showing each name's best. The server replays every click and flag, checks that the grid was really cleared, and compares the game's clock with the real time since the first click; a grid that does not match is left out.
Tips
- Start in a corner or in the middle - the first cell is always safe, but the middle usually opens more
- A 1 with a single closed cell around it means that cell is a mine: flag it, then "open around" the neighbouring numbers
- When you really have to guess, guess the cell most likely to open new ground
